T.P. Senkumar is a retired officer in the Indian Police Service. He served as the State Police Chief of Kerala. He was appointed as the State Police Chief on 31 May 2015
Senkumar completed his college education from Christ College, Irinjalakuda. He holds a Postgraduate degree in Economics and a degree in Law. Senkumar has submitted a thesis on road accidents to the Kerala University, which was completed under the guidance of noted economist and Chairman of the State Finance Commission, M.A. Oommen.
Prior to joining the Indian Police Service, Senkumar joined the Indian Economic Service. In 1982 he was selected to the Indian Police Service, under the General Category, of the Kerala Cadre. In 1983 he started his career as ASP, Thalassery & Kannur.Senkumar also served as the Kochi City Police commissioner for a little over a year till August 1996 before which he served as ADC to the governor from 1991 to 1995. He was appointed IG, Police Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau in 2004. In 2006,he was appointed the Managing Director, of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation and was later appointed Transport Commissioner in 2010. In 2009, during his tenure as head of KSRTC, he was also given the responsibility of MD, Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation. As ADGP, Intelligence from 2012 to 2013, he sent newspaper clippings to the then chief minister, highlighting the plight of poor and destitute people, who were in requirement of assistance, which led the Chief Minister to start a permanent fund to assist such cases.
In 2014, he was appointed as the DGP, Prisons. He has investigated many important cases in Kerala like the LIS financial scam, Magnum, Teak and Goat scam cases, Vithura and Pandalam sexual assault cases and French spy case among others.
In 2009, Senkumar was awarded the Presidents Medal for Distinguished service.
